The Type 3 policy encourages data sharing and requires statements of data availability. The policy text includes information on the Springer Nature list of recommended repositories; introductory text on data citations; information on writing a data availability statement; and a link to the Springer Nature Research Data Helpdesk. Peer reviewers are encouraged to check the data availability statement for compliance with the policy, and are entitled to request access to the data (and code) when needed for them to perform their evaluation of a manuscript. The Type 3 policy for life sciences also includes a list of data types for which a community mandate may apply, as well as suggesting appropriate repositories for data deposition.
