This online resource encompasses geographically explicit data sets that provide a framework for data collection, organization, retrieval, visualization and analysis for thousands of records of historical events in this vast region. Currently, this web-based database includes historical data related to five core topics aiming to understand human-environment relationships: conflict, environmental events, human migrations, exchange and disease. After: The IOWDB was designed for the particular requirements of the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research (IOW). It is aimed at the management of historical and recent measurement of the IOW (to some extend of other data, too) and to provide them in a user-friendly way via the research tool ODIN (Oceanographic Database research with Interactive Navigation).
