Digital technologies are proving transformational for the life sciences, and in order to allow Australian researchers to participate in this global digital ecosystem as first class citizens and to remain competitive, Bioplatforms Australia has committed $20M National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) funding over the period 2019-2023 to establish and operate the Australian BioCommons. The mission of the Australian BioCommons is to (a) provide access to services for bioinformatics analysis and digital asset stewardship, (b) provide training and support, (c) sustain strategic leadership in the provision and use of bioinformatics and bioscience data infrastructures at a national scale, and (d) actively support life science research communities with community scale digital infrastructure.
